Lodging & Launching Information 2006 Central Regional Regatta
Primary site: SOUTH Elk Lake, Michigan
Backup site: White Lake, Whitehall, Michigan
South Elk Lake Launch Site: Launch off Whitewater Twp. Park, Park Road, then north 1.5 miles to new plate of Ice 4 ½ inches thick.
White Birch Lodge is CLOSED! They went to Costa Rico!
There is currently NO access to the regatta plate from 3rd street in Elk Rapids OR from White Birch Lodge as of 3/1/2006. New ice in the north part of Elk Lake only measured 2.5 inches as of 3/1/2006.
Registration at Grand Traverse Yacht Club, check their web site for directions, 7-9 pm Friday night, or on the ice - Late registration fees WAIVED, but no guarantee of starting position if you register on the ice. $20 reg. fee.

At this point not sure if safe to roll trailers onto ice, although report is 12 inches of ice at Whitewater Park.
Directions to launch site:
Take I-75 North to M-72 (Grayling).
West about 35 miles to Elk Lake Road.
North on Elk Lake Road to Park Road. Right on Park Road to Whitewater Twp. Park.
Check Hot line en route, there is a weather event tonight, also chance ice in North end may be better by Friday. Primary plate will be sailed again Thurs. afternoon.
Primary site Ice is rated 8 based on big picture, but it is good ice, 4 ½ inches thick, no snow. Plate is off Carnes Rd. May be some very limited launch facitilites available off Carnes Rd. But for now primary launch is Whitewater Park.
