Pepin, as good as it gets! Saturday we sailed in 6-8 mph on a one mile course. The Doctor put up a new mast and was very fast from the beginning. He won the first three races easily. I changed runners after the first race without much result. After the third race I stiffened my rig and like magic I was fast enough to finish ahead the next two races. Doctor of course change his boat again and out did all of us the last two races.
Sunday we decided that point to point racing had a place in iceboating. Lake City, Minnesota to Pepin, Wisconsin. Oh ya, Not sure of the exact distance, it seemed like about 7 or so miles ( farther than you could see). We found a group of Iceboaters having a day with several sternsteerers a skeeter and some DNs sailing in front of the Pickle Factory ( a local drinking establishment). Walked into the bar just in time to see a very sad look on Payton Manning's face and a very happy Pittsberg Team. Met a few of the Local Iceboaters, and had lunch.Overall, it was one of the best weekends of iceboating one could ask for.
Pepin
Glad to have you guys join us in Pepin! Great time on Sat and Sunday.
Ice report: Wed night @ Pepin. We got maybe an inch of snow on Monday night and it has blown around so the lake is 50% covered. Still sailable unless we get more.
Reports that the upper end of the lake finally froze over.
Landing at Pepin has started to push up but we should be able to get trailers on without too much work. No one has taken a vehicle out on the ice yet.

Sounds awesome
I'm sick that I missed it. How many DNs? Can you describe the ice?
sunday was great..
Three of us, jd, markum, and myself went out on sunday. We did some tune-up racing (with jd's help on the tune-up.. which was great).. then we got into point to point mode and sailed over to pepin. Upwind to pepin, long downwind run home. At pepin (as has been posted previously) there where 3 stern steerers (2 out sailing..) a skeeter, and a handful of cruising dns, and a super dn (dn w/ front steerer plank). The Pickle Factory bar is great with a nice view of the launch area.
They seem to have it pretty nice over at pepin.
It was a really, really great day. The ice was bumpier (but okay) farther south near pepin, and smoother near the lake city side.
There is open water around the point at lake city and markum reported open water along the south west side, but we didn't get over to that side of the lake. There is one pressure crack that is forming about 1/4 way to pepin. oh, yea and one local kite sailor who after seeing the gang out on saturday decided the ice was safe-enough and came out on sunday..
over and out
(duplicate remark.. you'll see this remark in another pepin thread).
