Ice conditions

Does anyone know the snow/ice conditions on Lake Winnebago?

ice on Winnebago

According to the 4 Lakes Club Web site the stern steerers have called off the WSSA regatta because of bad ice conditions. Don't know about the DNs.

The North end was...

... described last Sunday as:

... snow free. It was a iceboat wonderland. Over 1 foot thick easy. Drive the trucks on and miles of great ice.

(by a DNer...)

I haven't heard any more specifics, but the stern-steerers have called on their regatta (WSSA) for the NE corner of the lake. From the announcement on iceboat.org:

Via Jeff Seeboth: "We have identified a potential regatta site on the far north end of Lake Winnebago. Ice thickness was measure at 12 + inches and drive on access has been identified. Final determination will be made at 12:00 noon on Thursday January 26th ...

There's a discussion thread on the iceboat.org Message Board about the conditions, too. You could probably get some more information there.

The snow here in Madison is slowly disappearing; I took a couple of photos of a landing on the NE end of Lake Mendota: the landing shoreline and lake surface.

I'm guessing that the surface of Winnebago looks similar...
