Lake McBride south of Cedar Rapids has 6" of clear ice, surface a 7 or 8. Gusts to 30MPH and afternoon drizzle should make for a short but intense day.
The area that you noticed is only workable a couple times a year due to accessability issues, but reamins my favorite. Undulating ice, pressure ridges, stumps, mud islands, an occasional coyote, and miles of narrow backwater channels add up to a good day on the ice.
