Looking for the Pony...

As an old Auctioneer once told me, "With all this 'sh!#' around here, there has to be a Pony hiding someplace!"

It's now a month since the Great Western Challenge Regatta, and we've seen snow every 48 hours since then... Snow again today, snow forecast for Monday/Tuesday.

Lake Phalen on Thursday Jan 8 had 12 inches of ice, covered by 1.5 inches of dense snow, not deep, but we'd need more than the 5mph breeze forecast for Saturday...but for the 1-5 inches forecast for today, Peppin, near Frontenac/Maiden Rock probably better.

We need to plow a track to sail, and as sailors, that's what we do, sail.

TOOK THE PONY FOR A QUICK GALLOP THIS AFTERNOON.4'' BLACK ICE AND GROWING.WIND 15-23 FROM NORTH.CURRENTLY,0 DEG F,LOW ABOUT -10 OR SO TONIGHT AS WAS LAST NIGHT. VERY WINDY WHEN LAKE FROZE SO WIND HOLES THAT FROZE HAVE ROUGH PERIMETERS. ONE GOOSE WIND-GOOSE HOLE TODAY (10X40) CHASED EM OUT THIS MORNING AND NOW FROZE OVER. I GIVE IT A 7.5 TO 8 DUE TO ROUGH FREEZE LINES HERE AND THERE. OTHERWISE SNOW FREE. NOW THE BAD NEWS IS I AM IN CHICAGO FOR A BANTAM TOURNEY THIS WEEKEND. I HAVE A BOAT ON AND SOME LOCALS SHOULD BE OUT.AS ALWAYS THIS IS PRIVATE ACCESS AND BOATERS SHOULD CALL FIRST.PLAN FOR SAILING NEXT WEEK.

IN CENTRAL ILL the PONY is here and restless.Skimmed over the last 3 mornings.Next week early we are looking at highs in low teens and goose egg lows.The pattern is favorable.Fast Black Track on the Horizon.CYOTI'S ARE HOWLING!
