And a sailor friend of mine said, what do they know about sailin, and I replied they know a lot about turning left and going fast... I bet with about a week of practice they'll kick some asses...
The First Spark of Fire on Ice was on Lake Phalen last night.
Special thanks to the first wave of track support, the snow moving team:
- Joe "Plow" from Lakes Area Lawn in WBL and his buddy driving 2 plows, a sponsor partner now in his second season.
- The Stud Club, (Tanners Lake Motorcycle and ATV Racers with studded tires)
- Kline Motor Sports, Maplewood.
- Andy Markus, Competitor advisor.
5 pickups with blades in airport "conga line" style started track prep at ~ 5:00 pm today, in two hours we had both tracks substantially done. From the hill at the Beach House is was quite a sight, in the last light of the day, just watching these great people rippin around the track.
The track to the our best estimate is Apron to Wall ~ 110', both Andy M, and myself think it to be plenty wide enough to minimize risk of trouble. Joe Plow, the Snow Plow Guy from Lakes Area Lawn said they appeared to be 3X wider than the course he made us on White Bear Last Winter. Both measure almost .3 miles a lap on my odometer.
Photo's will be posted tomorrow, after it looks like the zamboni was here. C'mon around, look around, Andy said it's good enough to sail around. My guess is it'll accomodate 3-4 abreast on the course.
Excellent weekend forecast.
Magic awaits in Minnesota! Setting the stage for the the ultimate DN event of the year scheduled someplace in North America the following week.
A word to the uninitiated, I think you'll like higher crown in your runners round here, in order to stay down low the Track and hold your speed thru the corners.
The Fire on Ice Track will be open for limited orientation and testing Wednesday - Friday this week during Event Setup. Remember, this is a non-motorized lake, only vehicles holding copies of the event permit are allowed to drive on. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rJDsm1Y4kUk

Shaved...
I saw the tracks...they have been shaved-clean with a special ice shaving machine.
The surface is in excellent condition - come and get it!
