That was a great regatta. Some really good racing. With light, shifty wind and fast ice with some hazards it was really fun iceboat racing. The temps were down around, I'm not sure but 11 to 14 F.
Saturday we got in three races in the Ice Opti, Silver and Gold Fleets before the PRO called it a day. It was cold and there was some decent wind all day long. Some of the top racers were using their speed sails.
On Sunday the weather was calling for light and variable but there was a consistent direction and more then enough wind to make the time limits. Sunday it seemed like the ice was a bit bumpier, either because we were in another location or the cold night.
The Minnesota Ice Sailing Association was well represented and took home both the Silver Fleet and Gold Fleet Trophies.
The Silver Skate was awarded to Mike Bloom, after a close battle with Terry Erwin, both from Minnesota. What does it take to win the Silver Skate?... it might take sailing two laps with out a glove..
JD successfully defended his trophy from the hard charging Peewaukee Ice Sailing Squadron(PISS) and Central Region Racer John Harper.
It was tighter Racing at the top of the gold fleet then the results show, as the lead changed places on many of the laps. Mark Christensen got faster as the day went by on Saturday and won a race. The Minnesota Ice Sailing Association had five members in the top 10 (4691, 4824, 5214, 602, 4811) and two more members are battling for the Dick Hatfield Silver Skate Trophy in the Silver Fleet. The club seems to be doing great.
