36" plate runners

36" plate runners are hard to find, either used or just the raw material. I am looking for two good shape 36" plates, or a source to get the steel, preferrably profiled.

Sarns does list 36" J-14 runn

Sarns does list 36" J-14 runners on it's site. They're the old "Alligator Nose" profile:

36" plates

Geoff:

Thanks for the info, I'll give them a check. We are interested in making a set or two and would also be interested in finding some stainless material.

Did you notice how we keep bumping into each other on the net...

It a small cyber-world! ;-)

There are a number of people looking at making plate runners. There was at least one group at the Skeeer Ice Boat Club swap meet selling "Sarns-Style" plate runners, and another with a Renegade runner "kit". I know someone looking at fabricators for plate runners, too. I'm also trying to have some inexpensive insert runner sections made so we can get more people into "starter inserts" for the DNs (perhaps even cheaper than Sarns' plates!). Hopefully all this activity means that we may have a bigger selection of runners and components in the near future.

If you're interested, I can put you in touch with the Renegade kit fellow. Drop me a note: sobering-at-mailbag-dot-com.

36" plates

Geoff:

Drop me his address if you would. I talked to him at Pegel's swap meet for a few minutes, but the Renegade runners were longer and very thick. I am really hoping to find, or make a pair of 1/4" X 36" bull nose plates. I picked up a pair of 36" bullnose inserts this summer and they are wonderful. The increase in performance and sail ability was hands down. The inserts that I found have extra heavy stiffeners and are as straight as an arrow. The GTIYC members were very impressed with their construction. Check my photo gallery for one picture of them on the boat. Hope to sail the new plank this next week.
