It’s official! Mike Miller, DN 5369, is the new Western Region Commodore!!!
Thank you, Commodore Miller, for your willingness to serve the DN fleet.
And to echo Deb Whitehorse: “Many thanks to outgoing WR Commodore Julie Jankowski for her unwavering dedication to the DN class during her three years as Commodore.”
The Commodore’s responsibilities are endless. Of course, the most visible responsibility is to chair regional and continental regattas. More often than not, the job is conducted behind the scenes and off the ice. To that end, the Commodore relies on sailors throughout the region to perform various task and to assist in a variety of ways.
Pleased remember that the IDNIYRA is a volunteer organization. We should all follow Commodore Miller’s lead and think about ways we can contribute to the class. This is an opportunity for the Tonka sailors to really step up, as Mike Miller has, and show not only the Western Region but the entire organization that the Tonka Fleet is committed to the future of our sport. Don’t wait for the Commodore to ask for assistance. Let him know up front you are willing to help.
December is going to be a great month for iceboating. We start off with the world renown, always popular, Great Western Challenge to be followed immediately by the 2014 Western Regional Regatta.
Think about what you can do to make these events great. Then call Commodore Miller. The fleet will appreciate your call.
Think Ice!
