Based on further favorable reports from Grand Traverse IceYacht Club sailors, they give the ice on north Torch Lake a high rating.
Dick Wollam, Julie Richards, Dr. Don Willman, Bob Gray, and Randall Kline sailed DNs Tuesday from noon to 5 p.m. Dick said it was fast ice and pleasant sailing. It is mostly black ice, a bit pebbly here and there with a crack now and then.
They could sail about 30 mph in 4 mph of wind. At the end of the day, the wind came up to 8 mph, and "they were flying!" Dick said.
There is a favorable forecast from now through the weekend.

I'm not sure; it's only about 8 hours from Madison. Maybe too long a trek for a 1 1/2 day regatta, but if the NAs are there, I'll be driv'n!
I'm just hoping the NAs and Northwest don't end up on the same weekend.
Cheers,
Geoff S.
