Two questions for anyone who might know:
Is there ever passable ice under the Narrows Bridge? If so, any idea what the clearance is?
I suspect there might be too much water circulation there to allow thick ice, but I was just wondering if moving from Upper to Lower Lake Minnetonka was possible without breaking down the boats.
narrows
There is usually enough ice under that bridge to sail through. I have not heard how it is this year. The cold weather will help. Watch for a ridge at each end of the channel. The dirt from the road above can be hard on your runners. Nite fits by one inch when sheeted down.

runners from hell
I'll second JD's concern about the grit. I've done it. Thought it was going to be fun sailing a new piece of ice. But the grit that fell from the bridge destroyed my runners. Spent the day sharpening instead of sailing.
Narrows grit
Thanks, guys. The lure of sailing the whole lake is interesting enough that I just may have to try it if the conditions allow. If a Nite can clear, then an Arrow and a DN certainly can. Maybe I could bring some carpet strips to use as skids and slide the boat past the grit. Sounds loony enough to be fun.
