Mark “The Doctor” Christensen (DN 4824) took top honors at the 2013 ILYA MC Championship Regatta. The seven race event was hosted by the Okoboji Yacht Club in Milford, Iowa, on August 14-17, 2013.

The Doctor, sailing MC 1969, was a threat to win right from the start when he won race #1. He then sailed consistently fast the rest of the regatta to best the 43 boat fleet.

Other notables sailing the event included Jim Gluek (DN 4257) who finished third.

Congratulations to the Doctor on an impressive soft water victory!

I know I am not the only one doing some shop work this summer, so let's keep the website goin' and share what's new for next season. Picture attached of the plank for my new C Skeeter. Unfortunately, the plan is to not complete this until 2014, so my wife doesn't kill me for working on the boat every day.

I am gearing up for a runner build this summer & fall. The material will be 1/4" 440C. Side runners will be 40"x4-1/2", the front runner will be 32"x4-1/2". I plan on alligator style, but can also do a bull nose style. The edge will be 90 degree polished through 600 grit. The stiffeners will be 1/4" aluminum angle and I will be using HDPE for the DN style mounting bars. I expect the cost per set to be under $1500. Let me know if your interested in a set.

Four different races sailed on Sunday, the last day of the regatta on the same course. There was more wind in the morning then afternoon, and the order was, Renegade, DN, Skeeter, Stern Steerers.

What a great display of iceboating. This year we saw so many great iceboats. Many we havent seen in a while. Congratulation everyone for being part of it. Thanks go out to Greg Simon and the Four lakes club for their hard work. Greg ran the racing for three very long days. Thank you Greg! Thank you Deb for the constant news feed, scoring and everything you do. Thanks to the Green lake club for all of their hard work. Thank you Joe for checking the ice. Thank you Julie, sorry we missed the party Friday night.

Karol Jablonski aka "King Karol" racing P-36 won the 2013 European Championships sailed on Siemianówka lake on the Polish / Ukrainian border. Jablonski, the reigning champion, won 4 of the six races. Tomas Zakrewski P-55 was 2nd and Peter Hamrak M-53 (Hungry) finished 3rd.

Get your butt, er, boat to Green Lake, Wisc. The regatta starts Friday, March 15, 2013, at 10am. Expect the DN class to start first.

Keep checking the 4LIYC website @ http://www.iceboat.org for updates about the Northwest Ice Yacht Association Annual Regatta. At present, there is no sailable ice but, because it is so late in the season, the regatta will be called on every week with the hope of ice conditions improving enough to hold the regatta.

Central Lakes Rear Commodore Kent Baker reoprts the Central Lakes Regional Championship Regatta tentatively scheduled for February 23-24, 2013 has been POSTPONED .

The Nite National 2013 Championship Regatta has been called ON for Green Lake, WI., for the weekend of Feb 16 & 17, 2013. See the 4LIYC web site @ http://www.iceboat.org for more details along with the Notice of Race (NOR), Sailing Instructions and Registration form.

White fronted geese have entered SE Iowa, which has been a harbinger of the death of the ice season in these parts. Nice while it lasted. The snow maps show NW Iowa as clear and the ice fishing shanties are still up. Clear Lake, Ia. is still sucking up vehicles.

Just cold, very cold.
