Looks like the wind of on Friday is going to be the best day.. like all minnesota regatta's, I guess.. and Saturday looks like a great day too.
The Minnesota gang will make sure all our friends (that have driven to the western edge of the region) will have a great time.
Loomer has moved to Montana and sold his boat! The way I see it there is no need for all his equipment to take up space in my basement. I am selling everything he left behind.

Anyone sailing' thurs?thinking of coming down from thunder bay to do some iceboating,
The following is the NOR for the upcoming regatta. Sites are being scouted in Minnesota and Wisconsin.
I posted a photo in library of Dr and I sailing Waconia Jan 2. It is not suitable due to at least 5 open springs in various spots in the middle of the lake. Snow ice was crusty and with pebble texture. Maybe a 5 in quality at the moment. Dr scouted Green Lake in Spicer, MN. 80 miles west of Tonka. No snow there and high quality ice on a very large sheet of ice with one ridge to navigate to the best sailing area. Meyer and I plan to sail it Wed.
Be Warned: There is open water as of tonight (1/02/2012) in Smiths Bay just west of the tip of Brackett's point.
US 5432
I captured an unfortunate moment for one Nite sailor and his passenger today:
Forward to 2:13 for the crash. They were not severely injured but were definitely banged up.
The bad spot was previously unknown but is now marked by two sticks in the ice with long orange streamers. It's located about 300 yards NE of the flag on Gail's Island.
try out of harrys at noon monday. 15 degrees and blowing 15 from NW is predicted. see what we have after the snow. hopefully it sinks into the water on the ice. main lake could be safe/boatable with the cold. anyone have a better idea or location? dr, how about spring park? there is a rumor you and jd are looking for regatta ice. meyer
I am new to iceboating, I have a skeeter 45. What i am wondering is what is the minium speed that the wind can be blowing when trying to sail? I tried yesturday (the wind was about 6-8 mph) the ice was about 8" think but top was kinda slushy) with not much luck.
Any other advise would be much appreicated
Thanks

Racing scheduled to start at 1 pm Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. Very good ice now. Only weak spots are right next to the Island at the points. The public launch on the east side works well for trailers or you can carry in at Reeds on the west side near H2. Often the courses are lopsided due to the island but that actually adds some wrinkles in the racing strategy. Good group of guys who know how to have a good time. Mainly Dns and Nites but we have Skeeters and Opti's mixed in.We even have a Klingon Warship that cruises the perimeter. Bring whatever you got
Is anyone out there using a freeskate or other iceboard? I'd love to meet up and go boarding with somneone else! I also just started a site www.ice-boarding.com and www.facebook.com/iceboarding
Cheers!
Kevin
Forecast = "Howling Winds"
Yeah baby!
Who's in for Tonka in front of Harry's and MYC?
Anyone have the goodies for setting up some races?
Talked With Ray ang Marg's Resort and they reort 11" of clear smooth ice.i am thinking of a road trip from Thunder Bay if any other DN 'rs are interested let me know.
Be careful out there! Much of the fine, new ice did freeze to a maximum of 4” and apparently less in some spots. Lots of boats are set up around the main lake so please take note and tell your friends. High winds and warm temps have opened up new hazards.
My birthday present was sailing on the main lake in 10-15 with a full mile course with 10 others. Thanks you all. Boats are still set up at Harry's firelane for hopefully many days to come. Sunday's winds look perfect again. Monday may be too extreme at 20-30!
Watch for the open area to the NE of Big Island, marked by a couple of orange cones.
Packing up now.
