Attention; the Johnson Cup, the third annual closed course Ice Sailing Championships is postponed for one week...to March 19 & 20...
Forecast for this weekend is doubtful (extreme winds one day and nearly calm the next), forecast for next week should put us on a great sheet of ice, the track may not have an outside wall, snow removal budget will be substantially reduced due to snow melt.

Bring your iceboat to the WYC Winter Party: http://www.wyc.org/
The tracks are plowed in Wayzata Bay, a map of the as plowed tracks will be posted shortly. There's a road out to the sailing area, the ramp is very difficult, we plan to park on the dormant upwind/downwind course, and sail reaching legs.
SAVE THE DATES! MARCH 12 & 13 For the fourth successive Johnson Cup, short course championships!
Notice of Exhibition Race is forthcoming!
The medium range forecast is outstanding, with colder than average temps forecast for the next two weeks, we're lining up for what may be the best weather (warm temps and great spring ice) that we've ever sailed on. What's good for us isn't good for Fargo-Moorhead's flood outlook, because when the melt happens it'll be fast, it's likely to be a gully washer.
My bet is there will be (N)ice reports coming soon...

Very little snow over black ice, combined with this forcast could make for some excellent conditions
Has anyone been out on Tonka to see how much snow melted? Any chance of re-freeze for this weekend's colder temperatures?
John Hayashi reports good ice thickness and snow below his Nite's runner-stiffeners. No problem sailing today in the moderate breeze.
Many thanks to Deb Whitehorse at Iceboat.org for the "heads up" on Green Lake.
The forecast should clear off all the snow by next weekend.
Watch the Green Lake Ice Yacht Club website for updates.
For Wilmar MN today, 25 gusting 50, 42 degrees F, and sunshine, how much snow will it melt?
Today: Mostly sunny, with a high near 42. Breezy, with a west wind 13 to 16 mph increasing to between 25 and 28 mph. Winds could gust as high as 48 mph.

2011 North Americans -- Done in by weather
« on: Today at 03:11:10 PM »
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I regret to inform you that the weather has ruined all the venues we can reach in time to complete the regatta by Saturday. Our by laws require the North Americans to be complete within a week. Its a bit more complex, but that is the gist.
Therefore, the governing committee has canceled the 2011 North American Championships.
