That's all the gear you need to be the 2009 DN World Champion. Matt Struble's fast little Ron Sherry (Composite Concepts) DN. I got to be a little like Matt and with my own quick little Ron Sherry boat, I just tried to be consistent (like Matt at last years worlds) and sail my best and now I get to take home the new (thank's to last year's silver fleet champ, Leon) Silver Fleet World Champion trophy! Yipee!..
Torch Lake, Michigan
It was a spectacular day out on torch lake.
West wind about 10mph, sunny
There wasn't wide spread shell ice, and the little that was there wasn't really a problem. The ice has been amazing, Friday 3:00am 3-5" of crusty snow. Saturday 10:00am, all the snow had melted. Sunday 10:000am all the water had seeped through and hardly any shell ice..
The ice was hard and smooth, with some texture here and there, but no real hazards or rough spots.
I had my best day ice racing, with a 4,3,3 in the silver, (tied for 1st).
We arrived in Traverse City and it's late so off to bed..
The trip wasn't without incident, the trailer broke behind the tongue and we limped it to the coolest welder in MI.

Nice going Mark!
Well, they certainly are big and visible!
Many thanks to George for the easy ordering and quick turn-around from http://www.marketingacuity.com/iceboat/
And a sailor friend of mine said, what do they know about sailin, and I replied they know a lot about turning left and going fast... I bet with about a week of practice they'll kick some asses...
We've been asked to demonstrate iceboating prior to the St Paul Winter Carnival Fire on Ice Event for a local network affiliate.
The media demonstration event will be sceduled at your comparative convieniece if you have one that can be made available.
Ideally the Side Car will be available media opportunities for the Entire Winter Carnival Event.

As an old Auctioneer once told me, "With all this 'sh!#' around here, there has to be a Pony hiding someplace!"
It's now a month since the Great Western Challenge Regatta, and we've seen snow every 48 hours since then... Snow again today, snow forecast for Monday/Tuesday.
Lake Phalen on Thursday Jan 8 had 12 inches of ice, covered by 1.5 inches of dense snow, not deep, but we'd need more than the 5mph breeze forecast for Saturday...but for the 1-5 inches forecast for today, Peppin, near Frontenac/Maiden Rock probably better.
I'd been busy with some other boat projects since the Great Western Challenge on Osakis, and I hadn't had a chance to do anything with my runners. With sailing a real possibility in the next few days, and maybe even some regattas coming up soon, I decided to spend some quality time with the runner sharpener this afternoon and get all my runners "ready to go".
Hmmmm....
Hi -
I've heard about ice sailing and would love to learn more. Having only sailed locally on Lake Minnetonka and out east (the Chesapeake Bay), I have to admit that the prospect of sailing on ice is a little daunting. Does anyone have any suggestions of how I can learn more? Is it possible to try it somewhere?
Many thanks!
Josie
