I just looked back at the first photo I posted here, compared with the shots from Fire on Ice last weekend...
I am nearly finished with a DN. I am looking for a used sail.
I live in Red Wing, MN.
A question. How wide should the groove be to complete the sail track?
John
Light winds made for some pushing Saturday, but a number of racers got around the track in good time.
Light wind and cold temps kept the track quiet until afternoon. Three boats setup and sailed, with a fourth arriving as the sun was setting.
Winds and the temperature are forecast to build through the morning, so Saturday's racing looks to be exciting.
In addition to my youtube videos for my Arrow, you are also welcome to view my Dragonfly Ice Sled. Directions: youtube.com, search for lotawana dragonfly. Ice taxi, anyone?

Fire on Ice, the competition for the Johnson Cup is Jan 30 an 31 on Lake Phalen in St Paul MN is rapidly approaching. We're publishing a notice of event this afternoon.
The IDNIYRA westerns this weekend, and is threatened by weather.
In order to have a Magic event at Phalen, to really make magic, thru the lens magic, we need to enhance the quality of our event along several fronts.
is it worth the drive to Pepin for some fun? Any chance the guy with the big skeeter in front of the Pickle Factory could get in touch with me.
Coralville Rez froze up 8 inches thick before they dropped the water levels about 10, feet leaving thousands of acres of flood plain sailable just west of I380. Think roller coaster. The access ramps should freeze up this week allowing easy setup with runners. If not, or even so, the wheel package might be wild.
I converted my yoke steering to pedals. My yoke fractured on the outsides of the handle. I have a hybrid DN/Iceflyer boat. It has a DN nose with an Iceflyer sail/forward seat setup. I had a common dn yoke steering handle. I was looking out my window and saw an old 'healthrider exercise machine in the garden and noticed the Pedals! I cut off the pedals and fit them into an isabelle pedal system.I also use bungee cords to make the pedal system spring loaded. When I epoxy the handle back to spec I'll be able to choose the steering I use according to conditions.
The cam is streamed on upsteram.tv a free service you shpold check out for your lake. I'll try and turn it on each day. The cam points west so you should get an idea of approximate wind direction and speed.
We all had a great time on Spring Park Bay, Lake Minnetonka. There were about 20 some boats out for our scrub races. We had lighter breeze and very smooth ice with the flower petal, hoars frost on the surface of the lake. It was a nice sunny day, a bit warmer then you might have thought for all the talk of the cold weather, not a warm day, but it wasn't super cold.
The January Issue of Wooden Boat is out with
