Given that traditional fiberglass helmets are a bit heavy I have been looking for a replacement over the last year. Light weight carbon fiber/kevlar helmets are becoming more available (and yes they are spendy) on the market but finding one with good vision while laying down in a DN has been a bit of a challenge. The Luge folks seem to have something but finding more info or a source has been a challenge.
Any suggestions out there?
I just read on a wind surfing/kiting site- www.windancing.com that Big Creek and Saylorville Lake north of Des Moines might just have clear ice.
5 to 7 inches and 90% clean.Check out their weather/forcast at the side of ththe page.
Any ice on Lake Pepin or other bodies of water ? Hopeful Pepin was not frozen before this last storm. ANY info appreciated. Looking forward to seeing the Pepin Fleet on the ice and enjoying the hospitality of the Pickle Factory. sternsteer

Happy Holidays!
Any of you guys have a simple system for putting a DN on the roof of a car? I have a Ford minivan with a factory roof rack that should take the load fine, just that it doesn't raise the boat high enough above the roof. MikeMc
only 1/4" frost snow, plenty of smooth ice. sail tonka bay/narrows or lafayette bay. launch at park, hwy 19 to tonka bay rd to left on west point road. tom meyer
Give your child of grandchild Iceboating for Christmas!
The gift that might last a lifetime.
Two complete Opti Iceboats, ready to sail with sails and runners.
Boats use Optimist rigs, very stable and nice sailing.
DN runners work. Comes with steel plate runners.
Custom almost new sails heavier and flatter than Opti sails for soft water boats. Sails used fewer than 6 times.
$1700 each, barely covers materials costs. My labor free???
Both for $3000.

I have a current design DN iceboat for sale. Built around 10 years ago with excellent condition overall. Solid wood mast, sarns blades and hardware, good condition sail...everything needed to get you moving faster than you can believe on the ice!!! Email me at randymascharka@comcast.net for details and to see the boat. I have several photos I can send.

Minnetonka is mostly frozen. The ice is variable in thckness more than normal. Please check areas that you are planning to sail very carefuly.
Spring Park looks sailable with some snow on the ice. Lafayette bay has less snow. Main lake is not safe.

2005 Western Challenge
Battle Lake, Mn
Well, once again friday was the best day, and that wasn't too great. The ice was a big sheet of ice, but with an inch or more of snow on it -- it was too sticky for the very light breeze we had. There were only a few competitors that had the right runners to go in this sticky snow. Something about the cold temps, new ice, light sticky snow that made the regular runners very sticky. We never had any wind to get the fleet moving.
We had a great turn out of over 50 boats (54 was the latest count). It was epic in the fact that never before have we been skunked.. It's usually a very windy area.. but not this last weekend. The weather forecast was upped to 10-20mph for sunday, but it never happened.
Sunset, Battle Lake, MN, 48 DN's are currently set up on the ice, sailors from Maryland, North Carolina, Six europeans, a serious pool of talent.
There's a hint of snow on the ice, which accompanied by the cool temperatures is plenty sticky in the 3-5 mph we were sailing in today. Around 4:00 the breeze picked up and a dozen or so guys sailed maybe 6 races before the sun went down.
It's gonna be epic.
