Northwest Ice Yacht Association Regatta
postponed until: January 23, 24, 25, 2004
All races will be sailed under rules of the National Ice Boat Authority and those of the Northwest Ice Yachting Association. Regatta is re-scheduled to be held Friday, Saturday and Sunday, January 23,24, & 25, 2004.
The Regatta site order will be: Toledo, Ohio, Gull Lake, Michigan, Sturgeon Bay-Green Bay, Oshkosh, Menominee, Green Lake, Lake Geneva, Madison, Fond Du Lac, Pewaukee, Detroit & Burlington Bay, Hamilton.
N.I.Y.A. races will be held for Class A, B, C, D, E, Renegade and DN (NOTE: Class A races will be held separately at Wisconsin or Upper Michigan, if not held in that area).
The DN Western Regional Championships' Silver Fleet (the Real Racing) started off in big breeze with Minnesota's Jim McDonagh jumping out to a huge lead early in the first race, only to be overtaken later in the race, finishing a close second.
In the biting, well beyond brisk breeze, after the conclusion of the Gold Fleet's racing, Silver Fleet race Seven started with most of the gold fleet watching as they took their boats down, the scorers on the ice, and maybe spectators, missing the among the best racing of the entire regatta.
Jim sailed one "heck of a race" in the final race. In a tight fleet with four individual race winners, trailing the leading pack of 4-5 boats at the first downwind mark... substantially... maybe 300-400 yards... To just eek out a victory in the last 2 boatlengths of the race for a Win in Race Seven and consequently the regatta, on a tie breaker.

Throw-out |
On sunday the ice was great. Very flat and smooth, with plenty of bite. The wind had moderated a bit, so it was super fast, but not so out of control as saturday.
We got in three races for the gold, and four for the silver, so both fleets got in the full seven races.
I'll try to get the race results so I can post the final results. I can say that sunday did mixup the standings from saturday.
